About Us

We are embarking on a new adventure.  We're in the process of finding our future home - a short-sale or foreclosure is the plan that we can update and hopefully end up with a paid-off home.  Our situation: We, Mike and I (Es) met 2 years ago on a blind date.   Depending who you ask, we can count that set-up dinner as our first date.  Mike claims he doesn't know we were being set up that night.  He thought he was just going to dinner with an old friend and his wife, I just happened to come along.
2 months later, we went on our first real date to purple pasta and Christmas shopping.  After that, we got together almost every weekend.  This is a big deal since we live 3 hours apart. Fast forward 2 years, we've been married for just 7 months now.  We were married in a vintage-y home-made wedding (pictures to come) and have continued to live 3 hours apart while we wait for our houses to sell.  We're hoping we are getting close to the time where we can own one home - a place where all of our stuff is under one roof.
Es (me):
I love vintage and antiques. I frequent auctions, estate sales and the free list section of Craigslist. I grew up on the east coast and was introduced to the antique fairs there first.  In the last few years, I helped pack up and clean up the estates of my grandparents.  I've spent years watching HGTV, TLC home shows and DIY network.  It became so frequent that my roommates wanted to stage an intervention.  This interest has only grown.  Buying this house will only channel my interests and luckily, I have a husband who supports me and thinks this next step is a good idea too.  Career-wise, I've worked for non-profits my whole life.  Most recently, I work from home for a small children's non-profit based in California.
Mike:
He grew up in California and then his family moved to Washington while he was in college. He also works for a small children's non-profit and spends most of his free weekends golfing or hanging out with all of our family and nieces and nephews. Before I met him, i heard he was a "hoot" and I think we've been laughing for most of our 2 years.  He really is just the happiest best guy a girl could ever meet.
Now:
We're hoping to soon find that perfect home for us to live in the next few years and possibly turn into income property in the future.  There are a lot of homes listed for around 50k in the area but when we drove by them, the neighborhoods made us feel very claustrophobic and unsafe.  The hope is to find a house where we don't feel that way in the neighborhood but we still get a good deal.  We know this process takes time and patience. We're going to walk through the first house on Friday. (picture posted here) Once we find the house, the plan is to update it via craigslist, free postings, garage sales, auctions and estate finds - aka ON A BUDGET.  This blog is a record of this adventure and hopefully the tips and lessons learned...
